The iPad is a great piece of technology but lets not forget the classics. Photoshop is possibly easier and quicker to create typography, just because we have the new technologies coming through doesn’t mean we should disregard the old technology. This is a funny statement to make but I find myself just going back to Photoshop rather than persisting with the apps on the iPad. I love the iPad and the apple pencil although moving back and forth is refreshing!
Really just playing around on the iPad again. A very quick and easy way to glitter things up. We can never have too much glitter, right?
Can you feel the motion of cursive. There is no finger movements here, instead the whole arm movements and then the body as the body follows the writing. Writing on such a big scale is a great way to feel self expression.
Working out new and exciting ways to push the Tilt brush functions. In this video the writing is vibrating to the base of the music. Then sensation brings the words to life. With the headset and the earphones together, helping to create an atmosphere far away from the reality that is going on around me.
Ipad and apple pencil = A lot of fun to play around with plus you can can create some pretty cool effects! This is all done in procreate on the iPad with the Apple pencil.
Each morning this week I have wrote the date, first in my right hand then in my left. I feel as though I am improving not entirely sure if that is the case however. If anything it's not feeling as alien as it first had. I will continue to write in the non dominant hand to see if there are noticable improvements.

OK so VR is such an amazing piece of technology! It seriously is a very immersive experience. Writing in the virtual world is a freeing experience that encourages movement both in the body and as I move through the letters of the word and also the movement of my arms writing out the letters. It's a different sensation, one that is liberating as I play with scale. There is no limit, such as space on a page or running out of ink, it's just me and the controller expressing what ever comes to mind. This is inline with the research surrounding movement and flow only on a whole new scale.
OK so I am all for experimenting and that's exactly what I'm doing here. Stepping outside my comfort zone, I am attempting to understand the latest technologies. I am using Tilt brush with the HTC Vive. There are no secrets to this, well apart from working out how to set it up and then working out what equipment you need to run it. That's actually really hard by the way!! But after all that it's easy peasy! And so much fun! There are other softwares out there but this looks to be the best one for my writing. However I am still investigating....
Ok so this is a bit of fun to see how atrocious my writing is with my left hand. I am a very right handed person using my right hand for everything. I am very proud of this effort, the very first words I wrote you probably couldn't read. There is another reason I am doing this other than for a good laugh.
This is an exaggerated state of poor fine motor skills. If I can build dexterity through practice, with my non dominant hand then my students definitely can. There other benefits to this project. I am using different parts of the brain, creating new neural pathways and posssibly aiding creative thinking. I also will eventually allow my rest hand to rest and not over work. Genius!
Since the invention of the Apple pencil more and more attention is on the iPad. It is as though this is what the iPad was lacking; a great pencil to use it with! With that some great little apps have come to the forefront one of those being Procreate. A very popular app amongst hand letters and note takers. I think this is a great step forward allowing us to use our motor skills more rather than relying on a mouse.
